Another top 10 for Richard Palmer

In more Richard Palmer based news; he also stormed round the lumpy F14/25 course at Gamlingay on Saturday afternoon to finish in 1:03:00 for a fantastic 10th place.

The event was only won with a 57 so it was by no means a fast day and it shows what a hard course it was.

Rumour has it that after roughly 100 races this year (maybe a bit exaggerated, but you get my drift) Rik will now be hanging up his wheels for the year. With a new coach on board he will be building for big things with us in 2011!

Rik takes 8th overall

In a hotly contested 4 event series, Rik managed to finish in a superb 8th place overall in the Victoria CC 10.2 mile competition.

Had it not been for his dragging his team mates round the 3-up before his final solo ride no doubt he could have finished even higher.

Maybe we should try and win the overall team prize in the 3-up series next year???

Team Salesengine take 2nd place

As the season begins to draw to a close Team Salesengine were in action in the Victoria CC 3-up 10.2 mile time trial on the E1.

It was the first time that Rik Palmer, Paul King and Steve Robinson had raced together as a team, and they stormed round the lumpy 10.2 mile course in 23:54 to take second place a minute behind Flitch Crono.

To cap a great mornings racing Rik then managed to recover sufficiently to take part in the solo event and finish in 21st place with 24:44 and a very sore pair of legs!

Another PB for Chris

Chris posted a 23:19 in the ECCA E2/10 event which is a 24 second improvement over his previous PB set on the F1b/10 in April.

Dave did a 22:53 which is the third time he has gone under 23 minutes this year. Another excellent ride.

"Another windy day on E2. The wind was across the course but slightly helping on the way back from the turn. A refreshing shower helped to cool me down on the return leg but seemed to dampen the wind a little as well. As always special thanks to Dave for training and racing advice"

Steve gets muddy again

Steve Robinson of Team Salesengine.co.uk was in action again off-road at the weekend when he competed in the latest round of the Mud Sweat and Gears series at Danbury in Essex. A gruling mix of technical sections, a water crossing, bomb-holes and gravel climbs tested him to the limit and he finished 31st in class about 8 minutes behind the winner.

Lots of lessons learnt about how crucial a good start is to the overall result, and the next round on August 15th is a chance to start climbing up the final results.

Ric just misses a top 10

On a less than ideal day on the E1 Ric Palmer produced a storming ride of 24:11 to bag 11th place in the latest round of the Victoria CC 10.2 mile series. His time was only slightly over 90 seconds behind the winner which shows what cracking form the big man has.

New rider - new 10 record!!

Richard Palmer, the new signing to Team Salesengine.co.uk wasted no time in making his mark by recording a team record 22:32 on a tough day on the E2.

Ric went into the event hoping to improve on his season best of 21:20, but a strong wind and 30 degree heat meant that was never going to be on the cards.

Welcome on board Ric, and we're all looking forward to helping you celebrate that magical 20 minute result before the end of the year!

Steve takes 10th place

In his best ride of the season so far Steve Robinson managed to just scrape into the top 10 in the latest round of the Northampton & District time trial series.

On a wonderfully scenic, quiet and challenging course he completed the 10 miles in 26:33 for his highest placing in the series so far. With 4 qualifying events still to go he is looking good for a top ten in the overall, and is also well placed in the short distance competition as well.

Steve swaps pointy hat for knobblies

After more than twenty years of time trialling Stevce Robinson made his mountain biking race debut at the weekend in the Mud Sweat n Gears race at Thetford Forest. A steady first 2 laps saw Steve beginning to work his way through the field as he found his feet.

Unfortunately at the end of the third of the 4 laps a collapsing back wheel meant he had to pull out as it had started rubbing on the frame.

Turns out he was headed for a potential 6th or 7th place finish in class, a better result than any time trailling events in the last few years!

Next event is the 19th July in Danbury, so watch this space.

VTTA East Anglia - E2/25

Chris has asked me to post the following BLOG for him:

After thirty two years of trying I've done it - nder the hour for the 25miler with a time of 59:30 That's 2min 28sec off my all time PB.

Despite a gusty wind to the turn there were several sheltered stretches on the way back. It was at about 17 miles when I suddenly realised that my dream was about to come true - sub-hour.

Special thanks to:

Dave Wentworth (training and racing advise)
Dr Tom Saw (Blackberry Clinic)
Mike Veal (Bike Dynamics)
Mary Hartley (for being the most supportive wife anyone could wish for)

From Dave - Well done Chris, what a stonking ride and welcome to the sub-hour club. I'm sure more is to come yet - yep, I'm starting to get worried!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve sweats his way to 15th place

Never at this best in the heat, Steve took to the start line of the Northampton & District association 10 near Northampton on Saturday afternoon with tempeartures showing 27 degrees.

On the slow and challenging rural course Steve clocked 26:15 which is a course PB by 1 minute and finished in a respectable 15th spot just 3 minutes behind the winner.

The points total should prve useful in his quest for a highly overall placing in the series, and the next round is just two weeks away.

Dave back in the 22's!

Saturday afternoon saw Dave Wentworth back in action on the E2/10 near Newmarket. Conditions were fairly still but the 27 degree heat made for a testing afternoon.

Not perturbed by the heat Dave stormed round the course in 22:45 only 7 seconds behind his season best, and within shot of his lifetime PB. A cooler day may well have seen him beat his best ever, and there is a long way to go in the season yet!

The travelling Mr King

Throughout May Paul king has been a busy boy driving around the South sniffing out fast courses and fast times. Mostly he seems to have been battling windy days but the results have still been fantastic.

He started the month with a top 30 placing in the ECCA 10 on a blowy day in Essex, which he followed up with a strong ride in the Maldon & District CC 25. Problem with that was he had too many minutes late start to count in the decent placings.

Things got much better further into the month as he headed down towards Portsmouth for the very rapid P613 10. He's a man who loves the heat and so he wasn't affected by the near 28 degree temperatures on the day. His time of 23:26 bagged him 13th place in the field of 109 and the honour of the second fastest 10 of the year so far for the team.

A 20 mph wind and challenging course on Sunday 30th put paid to any ideas of a 50 mile PB in the Maldon & District event, but his stirling 2:17:01 got him 25th place and a decent points haul towards his target in the SPOCO SE series.

Top riding PK, nice one!

NORLOND 10 - Sunday 25th April

A near perfect morning with just a light breeze from the south, but cool at 10 degrees and wet, wet,wet plus even more wet!! But what a stonking morning for Chris and Dave.

Chris, currently in the form of his life, produced a 23:45 - his first time ever to average over 25mph. Well done Chris, I'm well chuffed for you mate. You really are in form of your life - plus a bit more.

Dave recorded a 22:38 - a current PB and now just a mere 13 seconds short of that life time best set way back in 1976.

Lea Valley 25 - Saturday 10 April

Dave Wentworth actually managed to get a ride in an Open event on the fabled E2/25 and made the most of it. Although a rising headwind made it a very tough return trip from the 12.5 mile turn Dave recorded a very respectable 58:28. Just 8 seconds short of his life time best - and it's still April. Well chuffed is an under statement!!

ECCA 10 - Saturday 27th March

Second event of the year, first trip the the E2 for Dave & Chris.

A particularly tough day greeted the riders with a strong/blustery head/side wind to the turn. The only advantage from the strong wind was the final 2.5 miles - which was an absolute flyer!

With the winner only recording a 21:22 and several sub-21 minute guys recording short 23's, Dave was well chuffed with his 24:08 - even if the timekeeper did record him as a 23:08, if only!! Chris did a stonker of a ride with a 25:11.

A5 Rangers 10 - First race of the year

Team Salesengine.co.uk were out in force on Sunday 21st, with 4 of the 5 members all competing at the A5 rangers 10 at Towcester.

Paul King and Dave Wentworth had the colder conditions and lighter traffic by being off early, while Chris Hartley and Steve Robinson got a rising wind but more traffic thanks to their later start.

Given the appauling conditions in the days before we truly got lucky with the weather.

Steve made his usual flying start to the year (he always seems to peak by April!) to lead the team home with 24:25, Paul King came next with a strong 25:10 and then there were only seconds between Dave and Chris, with Dave just edging it with his 25:48 to pip Chris who finished in 25:52.

A cracking start to the season all round, with everyone looking set to post PB's as the season progresses.

PK goes for team colours

Over the winter the sylphlike Mr King has decided a re-spray of his TT frame was in order, so he's gone for a colours that will match the team skinsuit perfectly as you can see. Looking forward to seeing it all built up and on the startline of the Nomads 2-up 25 on March 14th PK!
