Sam competes in the National 10

Last weekend saw the first of the year's National championships take place at Sawtry just outside Peterborough. Only the fastest 150 are able to take part in this annual challenge to see who can come second to Michael Hutchinson, and this year Sam Hayes managed to qualify.

Unfortunately the two weeks leading up to the event saw Sam pick up a chest infection so he went into the event quite some way below par. Whilst most riders wouldn't have made the start line Sam is clearly made of stronger stuff and he got round the course in 25:03 to finish just outside the top 100.

It was a hard day, and Sam's time showed that when fit and healthy he could have made a comfortable top 100 placing, so here's to next year.

Whilst Sam was battling round Cambridgeshire Chris Hartley had made the long journey North to the V718 in Hull. As always seems to be the way when Chris goes to Hull for this super fast course there was a nice strong wind blowing to take the edge off the times. Despite this he rode strongly to clock a course PB of 23:59. Once day you'll get the good day Chris!

Dave Wentworth was the other member of the team in action, this time over at Leighton Buzzard for the F12/10. This was another excellent ride from Dave to finish in 17th place with 24:14 on a course that is notoriously hard to get a fast time on.
